Created under the Creating New Learning (CNL) initiative, the ETF’s formative assessment toolkit – FormA – is a new tool aimed at supporting education practitioners, teachers, curricula and assessment designers.
What is FormA toolkit?
A comprehensive and interactive online resource designed for educators committed to excellence.
- FormA explains what formative assessment is, why it is important, and how to distinguish formative from summative assessment while demonstrating the mutually supportive value of both.
- FormA aligns with contemporary pedagogical approaches, fostering an environment where formative assessments drive student success, and supporting the principle of ‘assessment as learning’.
- FormA puts together the latest thinking and trends in formative assessment, and offers practical knowledge, methodologies and tools for effective formative assessment practices – including a presentation of 34 formative assessment methods and activities.
How to promote effective formative assessment?
A section of FormA toolkit is dedicated to education policy makers looking for ways to promote and effectively integrate formative assessment into their education systems. It could:
- guide policy makers in designing long-term strategies to integrate assessment with teaching and learning, or provide data and success stories to inform policies and advocate for effective formative assessment practices at both system and local levels;
- inform education quality and excellence benchmarking, support the use of digital tools for assessment, and contribute to developing a balanced, coherent and whole organisational assessment approach.
